The project provides replacement social housing through a mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bed houses and apartments within the context of a new urban layout that reinforces connections with the wider city.
A central, tree lined avenue divides the site in two and connects with the existing road network. Houses along the northern edge of this route are predominantly 3 storey in height and employ mono-pitch roofs so as to increase scale and street enclosure. Houses to the south are lower in scale comprising primarily 2-storey houses which provides maximum passive surveillance onto adjoining streets and public spaces. The variety and scale of units responds to the overall urban grain and reinforces street hierarchy.
